Tornado: American Red Cross App Reviews

Not reliable

App is unreliable when you need it the most. It will send out warning signals, but then will not load the alert. Frustrating to be warned of a tornado and not be able to read the notifications that are posted. Needs an update to fix these issues desperately. It is storm season!!!!

Worthless

This app is a worthless piece of crap. If I didnt have my text alerts from my local municipality I wouldnt have known about the last two tornadoes that touched down 1/4 a mile from my home. And I never ONCE got any kind of alert from this stupid app.

Help

Love this app when it works. Unable to set up options, it keeps crashing. It needs to be reliable in order for it to be effective. Please fix it.

Extremely Vague, not really helpful.

This apps needs a lot of work to make it good and a trustworthy source of information during a weather emergency. The app need better information and more of it to guide people on how to handle a serious situation. Locations you chose need to be specific to where you live an not within 25 miles of where you live. Warnings and watches need to be broadcast as soon as they come out from the National Weather Service, not 10-15 minutes after the fact. This app needs to give a comprehensive list of what to put in an emergency kit and not just these three quiz questions. Severe weather can get very serious in the right conditions, if the Red Cross really wants to help then create an app that reflects it.

DRiver Dave MI

No way to change location. Came up on me wrong for me. No way to move to side

Issues with watch/warning statements

I like this app but when I try and read the warning or watch statements it wont load, even with wifi or lte, other apps that need data load just fine but not tornado. Whats the point if I cant read the alerts??

Needs some Tweaking.

Use to work really well. Now it always shows you have a message and theres no message there. Drives my ocd crazy. Sounds dont work or any warnings go off and I really need it since I live in Tornado alley.

Good idea, but..

Great idea, but the Red Cross family of apps is a terrible idea. On the tornado app, I can setup locations and people and subscribe to different alerts. And then do it again on the Hurricane app. And then on the Flood app. Etc. One app with variable alerts would be better: one configuration, one app polling current location data...

Alerts and Maps Are Useless (Updated 5-Jun-2016)

The Alerts are unreadable due to faint font. There is no option to select a color you can actually see. The map does not show any weather. It doesnt matter which overlay you choose - the entire U.S. is totally cloudless, rainless, wind-free - none of which is true according to the NOAA. I stopped giving to the Red Cross. USELESS!

Excellent

On May 29 this app went off on my phone before any other sirens went off. It woke my wife and I up. Thanks for this app we were warned first. Great!

This app + ARC Hurricane: Worth Having

Although my county also has a weather event text message alert system that makes the ARC apps a little redundant, I like having these apps. Their biggest downcheck is that they are dependent on having some kind of data access, either cell or wifi. Thus, if you have no data plan, and youre not presently camped out at home/Starbucks/Panera/etc, well then, you get to be surprised when the tornado blows you & Toto away to Kansas. On the other hand, the apps provide some level of training & prep guidance. Also the built-in on-demand sirens are good for waking the kids up.

Update is much better!

This app is great for warning me of tornados and giving me the information to prep.

Fantastic App

I would not have know about the Tornado Warning if it were not for this App. There is not a warning siren in this area.

Fantastic App

I would not have know about the "for real" Tornado Warning if it had not been for this app. I did not have TV on and there is not a siren in this area and this app gave me the warning. Best app ever.

Something is wrong

Normally this a good app but tonight there has been updating issues for hours. We have received 36 tornado alerts tonight. All but 1 has been out of our range. Need to fix please

Love this app

This app came in handy when we had a tornado hit just down the road from us. Im so glad I had it because we dont have a tornado siren anywhere around us. This is like having our own siren in my house.

Alerts

It goes off for everything! I received an alert at 3:30 AM for the possibility of heavy rain over the upcoming holiday weekend. Its too much.

Chicken Little Alerts

Any time there is an NWS alert all this app does is fire cryptic alerts, absolutely worthless.

App delete

I just deleted the Red Cross tornado and emergency weather apps after sitting thru a horrific thunderstorm here just south of Rapid City SD with these apps unable to download any data.Thankfully I had the Weather Channel and NOAA to keep us informed. We live and travel full time in our motorhome and I need something I can rely on.

Not too helpful

While the app is great for those who are indoors it goes off way too often. Last night I got no less than 4 watches in 1 minute. Other times Ive gotten 6 tornado warnings with a blaring alarm from 1-3am. It seems every time the NWS issues an update you send out the warning or watch again instead of just sending it to those who the change effects. It is becoming the boy who cried wolf. Ineffective because 90% of the time it is a reissue that doesnt impact me.
